A message from Dan Crispino, Principal of John Barry
I am honored to be serving my second year as the Principal of John Barry Elementary School for the 2017-2018 school year.
The 2016-2017 school year proved to be a tremendous year that was recognized across the district, state, and country. John Barry Elementary School was selected as a 2017 Model School for making dramatic and innovative improvements in learning by the International Center for Leadership in Education.
John Barry Elementary School continued to make exceptional gains in literacy and mathematics as well as improving chronic absenteeism. John Barry ranked 2nd out of 1,022 schools in growth (+13) on the State Accountability Index.
In many instances, Barry’s student growth data exceeded district targets and state averages. SBAC Spring 2015, SBAC Spring 2016, and SBAC Spring 2017 results for Barry in ELA exceeded state growth percentages. Equally important was that climate data reflected a strong school culture.
The positive changes in school culture, which have created a welcoming and caring school climate, have had a positive impact on student attendance.
In the affective domain, chronic absenteeism decreased from;
21% in 2014-2015 to
9% in 2015-2016 to
8% in 2016-2017
This was the most improved attendance rate in the district.

Barry has also seen the highest completion rate among parents with 96% of parents completing the 2016-2017 School Climate Survey. I believe that great schools are the result of great teachers. John Barry students will receive high-quality instruction from the best teachers the state has to offer.
